The Rangthar trek is one of the most leisurely treks offered by Sristi Co-op Society and allows you to reach a very scenic point in just 2 days. If you have only a weekend for a visit to the GHNP, Rangthar could be the perfect option for you.
The trek starts from a village recently connected by road, so there isn’t much climbing to do before reaching the campsite at an altitude of about 2900 meters above sea level.
And what a campsite! If you dream of an ideal camping spot that combines perfect ground, stunning natural surroundings, and a breathtaking mountain view in the background, Rangthar has it all!
Compared to Rolla, another 2-day trek offered by Sristi Co-op Society, Rangthar requires a bit more physical effort (an ascent of 760 meters for Rangthar, compared to 500 meters for Rolla) and does not have a river along the way.
To help you choose the best 2-day trek, consider this: if you prefer a riverside and forested experience with fewer views of the peaks, then Rolla is your best choice. However, if you prefer a fantastic camping experience with stunning views of the Himalayas, Rangthar is the way to go!
TREK ITINERARY
### 3-Day Rangthar Trek Itinerary
**Day 01:**
- Start early from Sunshine Himalayan Cottage in Tirthan Valley.
- Drive to Pekhri village, where the trek begins.
- Begin the steep, 3-hour hike to Luchhi village, followed by an additional 1-hour hike to a serene meadow with open views and stunning peaks.
- Set up camp in the meadow and relax. In the evening, take a short walk to a beautiful sunset point, where you can enjoy the stunning hues of the sun setting behind the mountains.
- Return to the camp, light an evening bonfire, and enjoy an overnight stay in tents.
**Day 02:**
- Early morning hike to Barchi Top to witness a breathtaking sunrise.
- After breakfast, descend towards the river through the stunning villages in the eco-zone of the Great Himalayan National Park, experiencing true village life.
- The descent takes about 3.5 to 4 hours, losing altitude as you reach the river for an overnight camp by the riverside.
**Day 03:**
- Day hike into the Great Himalayan National Park in the morning.
- Return and walk back to Tirthan Valley.
- Check in at Sunshine Himalayan Cottage.
- Option to hold a tips ceremony for the staff. Enjoy an overnight stay at the cottage.
